What's the difference between
a rook and a crow?

What's the difference between carrion crows and rooks?

  • Rooks and carrion crows are both members of the crow

  • Both birds are approximately the same size and both are black feathered.

  • The easiest way to distinguish one from the other is by their eyes. A rook has bare skim below the eye whereas the carrion crow has black feathers.

  • When they are flying it is possible to see that a crow's wings are shorter and broader than a rook's.

  • Carrion crow's beaks are stouter than a rook's.
