What's the difference between male and female blackbirds?

  • Blackbirds are members of the family and common visitors.

  • The male blackbirds is glossy back all over.

  • The female is an altogether duller light to dark brown colour. Her chest is mottled and she often sports a whitish throat.

  • The male has a bright orange beak and a matching orange circle around each eye which shows up strikingly against the glossy black feathers and makes it a very distinctive bird.

  • The juvenile blackbird is very similar in appearance to the female and also lacks the bright orange beak of the adult male.
